Ok I used to be able to draw....even got my own ink on my ribs...arm and ankle (small stuff). Now I am really starting to get inspired and would like some tips on how to do anatomy (ie human profiles) etc. I really dig anime but cant find my book (I will try to locate it). I know there are heaps on the web but thought maybe one of you wonderful folks might give me a heads up in your spare time. I am a good reproduction artist but I really want to put my own ideas to the paper/tablet. This will also include painting...I seem to be drawn towards water colours for some reason. Is that kinda weird?? I dont seem to gel with oils (in my mind)..I of course love just plain old lead (I know its graphite LOL) pencil and smudging a lot...yes Im strange

cheers for any advice

New System - Video Card Advice?

So, Im going to be upgrading computers here shortly (within the next few months), and I want a new (faster) video card. I currently have an NVidia GeForce FX5200 (old, yes I know). That just died on me for the most part (drivers dont agree with windows, so it has problems booting up. Sometimes it wont even boot), so Im now using a shitty ATI that Maya doesnt get along with.

My new system will be a P4 (I think...my dads building it for me. lol) 3GHz processor, with 2GB of RAM (for now). What would be some good (and affordable), reliable video cards that would be compatable with Maya, and most games?

So I'm making this character, a symmetrical armored medieval knight that I'm doing the base in maya, detailing in zbrush, and rigging/texturing in max.

But since it is symmetrical, could I just import one half of the model in zbrush and detail all that I need that one half and then once I'm done, just mirror over the detailed bits of armor and have everything fine and dandy, or would I have to import the whole model and do it bit by bit, and try to keep one side the same as the other?

Hi guys...I think I posted somehwere (cant remember) I have a Bambbo Touch and have done 2 sketches. Yes they are ordinary and I cant draw for s..t BUT can one of you lovely people advise me? where is the best position to draw/paint etc with the tablet?? I have it to my right of the lappy but it seems awkward...I thought maybe in front but if I have to type (Skype etc) it seems to be a pain. Any sugeestions or general throwing of edible fruits would be nice.

DTM or DEM (if you are across the pond)

Ok Im a Surveyor....I deal with DTM modelling all of the time (yes they are triangles..critical and boring). So....I want to create some environments for later down the track...you know create a folder with various real terrain data..I can change them to look differently quite easily..IF I can get the damn thing to work. I found this at CC BUT I cant get the program to work...I get the same attribute error and there didnt appear to be a workaround. When I get home tonight I am going to give it another go...or do as I do...bastardise it somehow.

Any thoughts??

Sadly only the U.S.A appear to have these DEM files...I cant find any for Australia. BUT if it is just images being manipulated...as long as I can get the image in I can mess with the scaling..yes?? I can pick a few vertices..get their 'z' values and work around it that way...hhhmmmmm. I really want to do this!! My kinda modelling from real life!!
