Default Crash Control - Short Animation

Hi people!

Haven't posted anything on here for a while, so thought I'd share what I've been up to with you.

I've been having a little one on one battle with one of the members over on SimplyMaya, just for a bit of practice, the theme (which I came up with) was two words, make what you can of them, Crash and Control. The rules (which the other member,Stwert, set) were that it was to be a 20 second animation, including modelling, texturing, fully rendered (not just a playblast) and to include some dynamics, or expressions used at some point.

Mine is a skate video, the "control" being the control of the tricks he's doing, and the "crash" is him messing up and slamming into the concrete! lol

We started this just before Christmas, and both decided to extend the end date til the end of January as Xmas took most of our Maya time up, so it's still running now, but mines pretty much finished. It started out as the full 20 seconds, but has now grown to 1 minute 40, and I'm still working on it, so by the end of the month will probably end up being about 2 minutes long. I'll post more updates to it as and when they're added, I'm going to continue this after the battle ends and try and make it a full length video eventually, I also have a plan to add a bit of a story to it too.

Anyhow, here's the link to it on YouTube, hit the HD and full screen it for best viewing.

CRASH CONTROL SHORT

Hope you like it and let me know what you think. It's my first attempt at animation, apart from once following a bouncing ball tutorial, so hopefully I didn't do too badly.

thats very good, the parts that caught my eye was the animation feels a bit floaty esp when the character jumps and lands, and i think the speed of the skater should be a bit faster. apart from that its very nice

Thanks Younglion, and Mike,

I had that comment about the "floaty" thing from some other people who've seen it, the problem is that when you're skating for real, you're always trying to achieve exactly that. So maybe I've put a little to much emphasis on that part of it. I'll try and tone it down a bit in future! As for the speed, anything faster just looked to quick, and you couldn't see what was going on as well. In skateboard videos they do slow the frame rate down a tad for that reason, so I was trying to replicate that effect, not a totally real life feel.

Thanks for the comments, I've had a lot of fun doing it so far, and now I've had my first experience at animation I can tell you there'll be a lot more being done in the future! lol!

Will post an update at some point soon, am rendering a few more tricks to add to it at the moment.
